Wife of Ellen DeGeneres come Australian actress Portia de Rossi has filed a petition in a bid to legally change her name to that of her spouses.

According to the New York Daily News, De Rossi, 37, stated that the reason behind the petition, which she filed last Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, is that she, the petitioner "Is taking the last name of her spouse," resulting in her new name being Portia Lee James DeGeneres.

De Rossi married comedian and chat show host Ellen, 53, in August of 2008 being one of the few couples who managed to wed in California before Prop 8 took away the rights for same sex couples to marry within the state.

Portia has changed her name previously when she was just 15, when she took her name Portia from a character in The Merchant Of Venice and De Rossi because she wanted an exotic European name.
