Ellen Degeneres has revealed that after only a year into her five year contract she will be leaving a spot on the judging panel on American Idol.

Before her seat could even warm up, the chatshow host has decided to depart from the show along with Simon Cowell, who announced this would be he last season too.

In a statement she said: “I loved discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings.

“A couple months ago, I let Fox and the American Idol producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me.”

Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake, Elton John and Harry Connick Jr have all been rumoured to replace Simon or Ellen and join Randy jackson and kara DioGuardi.



Music mogul Cowell decided to leave the show as he prepares to take X-Factor to the US.
