Hollywood star Mickey Rourke is to take on a role out of his usual comfort zone as he hopes to portray the life of openly gay rugby star Gareth Thomas.

Former boxer and actor Rourke, 57, has always longed to play the role of a rugby star and after hearing the story of Thomas coming out in the 'macho world of rugby' he decided it was the perfect idea for a movie.

It has been reported that the he met Thomas, 35, last week for dinner and their managers are now attempting to create a story on the life of Wales's most-capped rugby union international player.

Since coming out in December last year Thomas has also been made a patron for LGBT History Month which takes place in February.
