X Factor winner Joe McElderry has been the victim of an internet hacker who used his twitter site to announce the young star as gay.

Following countrywide speculation about his sexuality, someone has since reportedly hacked on to the singers Twitter account and posted a tweet outing him, it read: "It's been difficult living a lie for so many years."

Joe, 19, later deleted it and informed his followers what had happened "Guys my twitter has been hacked!"

He also set the record straight with the The Sun telling them he is very much "straight and single".
