Former ‘N Sync singer Lance Bass has donated money in order to help a gay friendly prom go ahead in the US State of Mississippi next month.

Following the recent controversial dismissal with some students not being allowed to take their same-sex partner to the prom, the Mississippi Safe Schools Coalition decided to create a gay friendly prom for students.

Lance, who is openly gay, has offered to help pay for the event and attend the evening. Other celebrities that are helping with the cause are the likes of rock band Green Day and organisation the American Humanist Association gave $20,000 towards the event.

The prom, for which final plans are still being finalised, is set to take place on May 8th.
