The Walford Website ( has revealed the homophobic climax to the love affair between Christian and Syed.

Albert Square chiefs are braced for a deluge of complaints by featuring a gay-bashing Muslim.

It comes after Christian Clarke’s affair with his lover Syed Masood is finally exposed.

In dramatic scenes to be shown at the end of next month, EastEnders viewers will see Christian battered by a Muslim character close to Syed and wife Amira.

Producers are staying tight-lipped about who carries out the attack but there will be a number of suspects in the frame.

When Amira discovers the truth about her husband’s sexuality, she turns to her family for comfort.

Heartbroken by his betrayal, she flees Walford in disgust, leaving Syed to try to explain why she has left – and he decides to cover up the truth.

Amira’s dad, Qadim Shah – who tried to stop the wedding – and Syed’s father Masood Ahmed will both be in the frame for the attack.

An EastEnders insider said: “Amira finally learns the truth about Syed and, as you can imagine, she’s devastated.

“She can’t believe that he would betray her like that with a man. And not just any man but Christian.

“Everyone knows Amira’s leaving but it’s not yet known if Syed will go with her or stay in Walford with Christian. But it seems that Christian is going to take the brunt of Syed’s problems.

“Syed and Amira’s wedding achieved one of the highest ratings of the year, so we’re expecting viewers to again be gripped when this storyline reaches its dramatic climax. There will be lots of twists and turns along the way. And sadly for poor Christian, he’ll be the one who ends up taking a battering. There will also be lots of complaints.”

The plotline has attracted criticism from senior Muslims.

Tahir Shah, from the Muslim Public Affairs Committee, said: “EastEnders is famous for its gritty and realistic storylines but we cannot condone such violence from a Muslim character.”

But human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell praised the BBC for dealing with the issue.

He said: “No storyline in any drama will ever reflect the totality of the many diverse gay lifestyles and experiences.

“Full credit to the BBC for having a gay Muslim character. The lives of gay Muslims are very rarely in the media. The EastEnders storyline is ground-breaking.”

An EastEnders spokesman said: “We won’t confirm future storylines as we do not want to spoil anything for our viewers.”
