The next edition of the comic book 2000 AD will see a storyline that takes an even bigger twist from the norm.

Called "Closet", it will feature a teenager coming out and the first page shows Judge Dredd kissing the young man. This has caused outrage amongst the comic's loyal fan base but, as the creators point out, Judge Dredd has always been satirical whilst dealing with serious issues and this is no different.

This may be seen as a jump on the proverbial band-wagon, seeing as there have been numerous comic characters coming out as gay or bi-sexual recently.

Look at Batwoman, The Green Lantern, Northstar (from X-Men), and Kevin Keller (Life with Archie), however the comic's creators stand fast to their decision, saying that comics were a "great" place to deal with issues such as homophobia.

Whether this is just a fight to gain bigger ratings or new fans, it will be interesting to see where this new path will lead.
