Eastenders Executive Producer Bryan Kirkwood has revealed that Ben Mitchell will come out as gay later this year, making him the third gay character for fictional Walford.

Ben, played by Joshua Pascoe, will come to the realisation of his sexuality later in the year when he shares a kiss with a new character Duncan.

Although not much of a shock to us viewers, Ben will have a tough road ahead of him as his hard man dad Phil Mitchell struggles to come terms with it.

Speaking to the Guardian, Kirkwood said: “For EastEnders viewers, it was never a question of if, but more like when Ben Mitchell was going to come out as gay.

The Mitchells represent the spirit of EastEnders – tough, loyal and uncompromising.
