Joe McElderry has revealed more about the time he came out publicly as gay earlier this year and reaction from his nearest and dearest including his mentor Cheryl Cole.

The South Shields singer came out earlier this summer to a positive reaction around the country and reportedly received a text of support from his fellow Geordie mentor Cheryl Cole expressing her joy that he opened up.

Speaking to X Magazine the 19-year-old winner X-Factor winner said: 
”Cheryl was fine - she texted me and said, "I'm glad you've managed to get it out," And she's always been there whenever I've needed to talk to her or discuss anything. She was great.'


However Joe revealed that he has since lost the message: “I dropped my phone down the toilet, I don't know if I do still have the text.”
