Following Joe McElderry’s his summer revelation to the press confirming that he was in fact gay; the X-Factor winner has recently stated that he has no regrets over his decision to be open about who he is and is glad for doing it.

The young Geordie singer came out to his family and the public earlier this year after many months of speculation and an incident where someone hacked on to his twitter account.

Speaking to Press Association, he said: "I'm glad I did it. And it wasn't necessarily a hard decision, because once I realised who I was as a person and how I wanted to talk about it, I managed to deal with it okay and it was pretty plain sailing for us."

The 19-year-old has been busy recording his debut album this year and is in the process to release his debut single ‘Ambitions.’

"I've been getting ready for recording and then when we were recording, getting ready for the album launch, and just everything really. It's just all been a really hard working year."

The singer will be heading back to stand before the judges once again in the coming weeks as he prepares to head back and perform the single, however nerves seem to be long gone for the South Shields singer as he revealed he would love to perform at Simon Cowell’s wedding to make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy.

"Maybe he'll ask us to sing there, you never know."

About returning to the X-Factor stage he added: I'll be going on the first week, I think.

"It will be very surreal and I'm really excited and I'm nervous, but I kind of buzz off that nervous feeling and the pressure, so it will be really exciting. It's going to be amazing to be able to go there and perform my own single and not have the pressure of being judged, it'll be great."
