Sarah Jessica Parker has given away her tickets to the Sex and the City 2 premier in a bid to raise money for equal LGBT rights.
Kenya police on Friday arrested five suspected homosexuals in a coastal resort town after hundreds of residents protested over a planned gay wedding, a local official said.
Seeking to overcome a broadcast blackout imposed by the US Supreme Court, a pair of Los Angeles filmmakers have undertaken the task of faithfully recreating the federal trial on California’s same-sex marriage ban for the internet – all 60-plus hours of it; every “um,” “yes, your honour” and “objection!”
An Aussie sporting presenter has found his career on thin ice after making homophobic jibes whilst reporting on the male figure skaters a the Olympics.
Eddie McGuire, who presents for Channel 9 news, is in a lot of trouble over the comments made and many are calling for him to be sacked. He hounded American skater Johnny Weir, for his flamboyant outfits. He and co-host Mick Molly ridiculed skaters for their outfits and attacked their sexuality.
Channel Nine’s official Olympic correspondent McGuire said to Molloy during the ‘childish’ reporting:
Molloy - "They don't leave anything in the locker room those blokes." McGuire - "They don't leave anything in the closet either, do they?"
Discussing the Western costumes, Pedestrian TV states they said:
McGuire - "a bit of broke back" with
Molloy -"A bit of Brokeback Mountain exercises, you can't wear that." “Oh Eddie, you probably thought that was hilarious - They don't leave anything in the closet either, do they? Not even their tutus, jazz hands, silk shirts or flaming homosexuality - but seriously dude, kids are watching. Normalizing homophobia during prime time sporting events should be left to NRL players. In your defence though Figure Skating is the polar opposite (no pun intended) of AFL so just take this one on your sizable chin and enjoy the lava lazyboy you're currently reclining in.”
The sporting presenter reportedly attempted to apolagise for the comment but managed to add a further insult "I suggested that there was a disaster happening at the ice skating rink because organisers had found out one of the male ice dancers wasn't gay.
"And I apologise for that really sincerely."
According to ABC news gay rights activist Gary Burns said about the comments:
“They're harmful to, particularly, gay youth who are living in isolated areas across the nation,”
“These young kids look up to [McGuire] and when they hear these kinds of comments and [they're] having issues with their own coming-out process, or low self-esteem or depression... they feel worthless.”
“It has caused a lot of angst and discussion within the gay and lesbian community because people can't understand why these comments would be allowed to happen on national television.”
“What should happen and will happen are two different things,"
"Channel Nine should sack both of them because they're not fit to be broadcasters or to be involved in a television network when they use this kind of banter."
"I have lodged a complaint ... because I believe the comments are capable of inciting ridicule, contempt or hate against homosexual Australians,"
"These two men were not out in the backyard having a barbecue with their mates, they're on national television. They've got responsibilities to the broadcaster and to the NSW anti-discrimination act."
A facebook group has already been created entitled ‘Eddie McGuire is ruining the 2010 Winter Olympics coverage’ Channel Nine is yet to comment.
