LGBT organisation GLAAD is asking hit American TV show, The View, to retract a misleading statement they made last month in which they blamed the increase in HIV cases due to black gay and bi-sexual men.

In an episode that aired last co-host Sherri Shepherd and guest host D.L.Hughley made a comment that angered the LGBT community, where they openly blamed the increase in the life threatening infection on black gay and bi-sexual men.

When discussing the issue, Hughley said: "When you look at the prevalence of HIV in the African American community, it's primarily young women who are getting it. From men who are on the down low,"

Show regular Shepherd added: "It's so big in the black community with women because they're having sex with men who have been having sex with men."

Along with GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamatory), thousands of viewers have asked the ABC network to issue an apology and also the show itself. However the network reportedly refuses to take responsibility for their actions.

The organisation also pointed out to the network that Centers for Disease Control had abolished the myth also.
