After Iceland had its first gay pageant, its winner has returned to his hometown to receive a warm welcome from the locals.

Mr Gay Iceland, also known as Vilhjálmur Thór Davídsson, returned to his hometown of Ólafsfjördur in north Iceland on Sunday to perform on Fisherman’s Day after he was crowned the winner in a ceremony held on Saturday in the National Theater in Reykjavík.

Davídsson was said to be overwhelmed by the support given from his locals saying “I am speechless about how warmly I was welcomed.

After deciding to take part in the first Mr Gay Pageant, he explained the reasons behind his application was to help young people come to terms about their sexuality.

Speaking to a local paper, he said about the event “The night was amazing in every aspect and it was a unique experience. It was, in fact, one of the better nights of my life, if not the best,”

He added: “Another reason for me participating is that five years ago I weighed 130 kilos, had yet to come out and was really unhappy with myself. But I got my act together and made some changes,”

He is now entitled to enter for Mr.Gay Europe, which will take place in September.
