Gay and Lesbian Public Servants pull double duty during Police Week 2010

Police Week in Washington DC each May is a week to remember peace officers throughout the United States who have given the ultimate sacrifice while wearing a badge and uniform.

Protect and Defend is an organization that has peace officers, firefighters, EMT‚s and paramedics who are gay, lesbian. Many serving in silence, the organization serves as a support group for its membership which is now at 400 members in 31 states. The membership also consists of service members who serve in silence in the United States Armed Forces.



GOAL Mid Atlantic is based in the greater DC area and shares the same mission. Coming together for the first time, these two organizations are hosting a joint fundraiser at Remington‚s Bar located at 639 Pennsylvania Avenue Southeast, Washington DC 2003-4303 ) on May 14 2010. Raffle Prizes and giveaways from cities far and away will be auctioned off by the members. Giveaways and some great entertainment is lined up for the many patrons at Remington‚s Bar that evening.

Gay and Lesbian Police officers and firefighters will be wearing protect and Defend T Shirts and social passes showing their affiliation with the groups. Members are asked to come out and support the efforts of Protect and Defend and GOAL Mid Atlantic by coming to Remington‚s Bar, visiting our public safety station and bringing friends to the event who may qualify for membership. Proceeds from this event will go to the DC Chapter of COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors). A recruitment booth will be giving away gifts and prizes. Meet peace officers and firefighters from California, Virginia, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Washington, Oregon, New York and much more!

LGBT Members will also be at EFN Lounge/Motley Bar (1318 9th NW 9th Street NW Washington) on Thursday evening from 1000 PM until Midnight.
