New York is breaking new ground by welcoming the first transgender firefighter to its ranks.
The tall blonde is a male to female desk worker who goes by the name of Brooke.

She is a third generation firefighter and her father, who worked on 9/11, is still with the department, known as the Bravest.
New York firefighters, known as the Bravest following their 9/11 heroics, have a transgender worker in their ranks for the first time
She works at Metrotech HQ, which is notorious for its macho environment, with only 32 women on the staff.

Brooke, whose surname has not been released, handles the scheduling appointments for recruits.
'It’s a tremendously courageous decision,' one firefighter told the New York Post.
