Over 5,000 naked opera buffs have stood on the steps of Sydney Opera house to be photographed.

The evidence has been captured by American artist Spencer Tunic, having been arranged by the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which took place over the weekend.

The Sydney celebration once again beat the Dubbo gay rights march into second place in terms of numbers and razzamatazz.

The Sydney event ended with a traditional game of Aussie Rules played by red-blooded Aussie males dressed in hot pants and boob tubes.
