Cyndi Lauper will have a New York housing centre named after her hit song TRUE COLORS in recognition of her continued work with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
The lifelong activist has been a regular visitor to the New York City Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center in recent months and she's been working with members of the venue's Youth Enrichment Services program to further raise awareness about equality issues and help parents understand their kids' lifestyle choices.
And her efforts will be honoured with the True Colors Residence, a permanent housing facility for LGBT youths from the age of 18 to 24, which will open in Harlem next summer (11).
Colleen Jackson, executive director of the West End Intergenerational Residence, tells People magazine, "Without her, the residence definitely would not be built."
The centre will be supported by Lauper's True Colors Fund.
