Chicago has been chosen to host the Gay and Lesbian Travel Association’s annual convention in 2013 after a decision was made by the board of the organisation.

The board met in Florida last week where they came to a mutual agreement to choose Chicago as the host of the 2013 event, a first for the city.

Travel association board chair Tanya Churchmuch reportedly said that they felt the mid-west city to be a great choice for the convention due to its "vibrant and diverse" gay community and easy access for many with its central location.

The association consists of 83 countries across the travel industry, including services such as accommodation, airlines, tour operators and travel agents.
