The UKs first ever LGBT History Month magazine is being launched with the support of Angela Eagle
Budget airline EasyJet yesterday offered to fly Pope Benedict XVI to the UK following the recent controversy surrounding his viewpoints on British Equality laws and estimated cost of his visit.
The Sun has caused havoc after publishing a poll yesterday asking whether gay people should be allowed to be cabinet ministers.
The Government will not push through proposals that churches argue would restrict their ability to deny jobs to gay people and transsexuals, Equality Minister Harriet Harman has confirmed.
A prisoner has had his stash of gay porn magazines confiscated from him as they were deemed to be inappropriate by prison staff.
Convict John O’Reilly wrote into the prisons magazine disclaiming what had happened to his stash and he felt the movement was discriminatory due to his sexual orientation. He believed it was a breach of human right, as they allow straight prisoners to keep heterosexual pornographic images.
According to O’Reilly, he believes the reasons behind the confiscation were solely homophobic and the reason it was seized ‘because jt displays penises’
The Burton Mail stated that he wrote in the letter:
“I had purchased these mags while at HMP Birmingham and obviously they had no problem with porn.
Since then, I have tried to purchase many mags listed for us to purchase via the library, but have never got one.
“Mostly staff ignore my requests, maintaining that they are American and ‘can’t be purchased’.
“But I proved that they can by getting a friend to buy Playguy from his local newsagent and send it to me.” O’Reilly reveals that a prison director told him no gay magazines would be allowed in the prison as long as he was in charge.
“How can he impose Christian views on a whole prison? How can I overturn this homophobic stance? “There are a lot of gays in here who are furious and feel victimised.
I hope the director sees this and considers a written response to Inside Time so that he can be held accountable.”
An spokesman for HMP Dovegate, a prison which looks after 860 inmates who have committed serious crimes such a s murder and sexual offences, said: “HMP Dovegate treats all prisoners equally and does not tolerate discrimination of any sort. We do not give prisoners access to any form of hardcore pornography.”
The Burton Mail reported that a Prison Service spokesman said that gay porn was allowed within the prisons at the Managers discretion and takes the matter of discrimination very seriously. “In regards to ‘top shelf’ material, governors will normally allow the kind of men’s magazines that can be purchased from high street newsagent chains.
“But, if the content is inappropriate, prisoners will not be allowed such material in their cells.
“Prisons risk-assess the material appropriate for a pedophile or on a sex offenders’ wing, which would be far more restrictive than would be allowed to other prisoners if such material would harm rehabilitation.
“We take allegations of discrimination very seriously and have a zero tolerance policy.”
