Pride London today congratulated the new coalition government on its commitments to LGBT equality.
In its agreement published today, the new government commits to:
Stop the deportation of asylum seekers who have had to leave particular countries because their sexual orientation or gender identification puts them at proven risk of imprisonment, torture or execution.
Use our relationships with other countries to push for unequivocal support for gay rights and for UK civil partnerships.
Patrick Williams, Vice Chair, Communities commented:
"It is pleasing that the new UK government has recognized that, as a progressive country, we have an obligation to set a good example"
"The UK has an appalling record of not recognizing sexuality as a risk factor when deciding to deport asylum seekers. I am delighted that years of campaigning by groups such as Pride London has had success. No more LGBT asylum seekers will be sent home to their death."
