Labour MP Stephen Pound has been scrutinized for reportedly shouting obscene homophobic insults whilst at a football match.

Pound, 61, reportedly abused Arsenal player Sol Campbell from an executive box at the Emirates stadium. Supporters were reportedly shocked by what they were hearing from the box as the MP reportedly shouted to Campbell “You are a big f***ing fairy.”

Fans also allegedly heard him abuse the referee whilst at the weekends home Fulham match, shouting, “What game are you at, you f***ing w***er?”

According to The Daily Star, one fan said “I heard a stream of abuse. Two ladies behind me said they couldn’t believe the language being used and that they thought it was coming from an MP.

I turned round and recognised Stephen Pound. He called out to Sol Campbell, saying: ‘You are a big f***ing fairy.’

“I was so shocked that I wrote what he said down in my programme.”

Mr Pound has responded to the claims insisting he didn’t make the homophobic remarks whilst at the game. Speaking to the paper “I was very abusive to the referee.

“But I didn’t call the ref, or any of the players, a ‘fairy’. I wouldn’t use that word to describe anybody.

“I called the referee a w***er and I’ll admit that I was bang out of order.

“But I had just come through a gruelling election campaign and it was the first break I’d had.”

“I will write to Arsenal FC to apologise for any offence caused by my bad language.”

The Ealing North MP, who was re-elected in last weeks election reportedly voted in favour for gay rights in Parliament, has since apolagised to those who lent him the box for the match.
