Jemma Thomas, wife of recently openly gay rugby player Gareth Thomas, has spoken about the moment her husband revealed his sexuality to her.
Speaking on the Victoria Derbyshire’s Five Live show yesterday she spoke about the time her husband came out and the separation between the pair four years ago.According to Wale online, in the interview Jemma stated: “We’d been spending quite a bit of time apart and he said we needed to sit down and talk about things,”
“He told me he was gay and I said ‘I think that you are…My reaction was strange because I had never suspected him of being with another woman and I did not know of anything that was going on with men.
“But I had my suspicions, there were rumours about Gareth from a young age but I had always put it at back of my mind.”
“There is a part of me which thinks he should have been more honest sooner, but then again I would not want to change the time we had together…I would not say it was wasted time because the time we spent together made us the people we are today.
“We had some great times over the years we were together and I do not have any regrets at all,” she added.

Jemma finished: “We had drifted apart a little and Gareth said he did not want to hurt me anymore…As much as he loved me he did not want to hurt me anymore.”
Gareth has recently been made a patron of LGBT History Month. He said about the appointment “I feel honoured to have been asked to be the patron of LGBT History Month…I don’t want to just make this a token role however; I intend to be hands on within my role, not only to make a difference to others, but to also grow myself.”
The pair are currently in the process of divorcing and it is expected to be finalised soon.
