Liberal Democrat MP David Laws reveals that his life has improved since he decided to come out as gay.

Laws,45, was outed after an issue involving expenses was revealed publicly to show he had been paying rent for his partner of the same-sex.

At the time his parents were unaware that he was gay and only found out once the scandal came to light but the MP has revealed that they have since been "incredibly understanding and supportive".

He went on to tell The Times: "That has been the silver lining.

The irony is that the private life bit, although it is the part that caused problems with my expenses, ended up being the simplest and most straightforward thing to resolve."

"Certainly becoming a public figure, if you are also a very private individual, doesn't make it a more obvious time to be open. In fact you become even more sensitive."
