Resturant Review: OSatsuma - Words: Robert Ingham

The West End is always a lively place, no matter what the weather, so it is no surprise we found ourselves peckish. Wandering onto Wardour Street, we found ourselves drifting into a brightly light, glassed faced restaurant. This is Satsuma, which classes itself as “modern Japanese dining”.

Bergamot Max, a natural alternative for healthy cholesterol levels

Bergamot Max, made from Calabrian Citrus Bergamot, provides a powerful blend of bioflavonoids, which in recent research, have been found to maintain healthy cholesterol levels and support cardio vascular health.

In one 30-day placebo-controlled, published study involving 237 patients, all of whom had high cholesterol, and some of whom also had high blood sugar, most of the patients in the Citrus Bergamot group had substantially lower total cholesterol, in some instances by up to 38%. LDL cholesterol had reduced on average by 37% but the largest changes were seen in the subgroup of patients identified as having Metabolic Syndrome: these patients saw a significant dip in their triglyceride levels of up to 49%, and a highly significant (P<0.0001) 22% on average drop in blood sugar levels.

The study also tested the responsiveness of patients who were unable to use statins: 32 patients with statin toxicity were asked to take 1500mg of Citrus Bergamot daily for 30 days.

30 of the 32 patients responded well, reporting on average a 25% drop in total cholesterol and a 27.6% reduction in LDL cholesterol, leading the researchers to conclude that Citrus Bergamot could be ‘considered as an alternative treatment in patients with a relevant intolerance to statins.’

Citrus Bergamot is endemic to the Calabrian region in Southern Italy, which accounts for 80% of the worldwide production. Bergamot juice has been used traditionally by locals for decades to support and promote the health of the cardiovascular system. Bergamot differs from other citrus fruits in that it contains a particularly potent blend of flavonoids, including naringin, neohesperin, brutelidin and melitidin, which, in clinical testing, have demonstrated a range of potential health benefits not found in any other citrus fruit.
